15 CENTENNIAL AVENUE- Rubble beside the river

Posted: May 28th, 2015 | Filed under: Uncategorized

You may have noticed a large pile of rubble in 15 Centennial Avenue. The site 15 Centennial Avenue was the  subject of a negotiations with Council, that resulted in concessions for the developer in exchange for the land  To all intents and purposes the property now belongs to the Community. It is planned it will be added to the creek side reserve

Michael Mason ( from Lane Cove Council ) called  to report that he has investigated the large excavation pile on 15 Centennial Ave.

He spoke with the contractor (HYCORP)

  • The pile of rubble comes from work being conducted by Sydney Water to put in a new man hole in the area
  • Apparently it was needed to be done to get machinery in to do the works
  • Michael has requested a clean-up strategy, including an immediate action plan of how they are planning to restore the area.

He will keeps us informed about what is going to happen next.

Noise from Rock breaking breaks limits

Posted: November 9th, 2014 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Lane Cove council was treated to an unusual sight last week ( Monday 13 Oct)

As well as the “usual Suspects” a medical doctor presented her measurements of the noise generated by building works on Gordon Crescent and areas adjacent. For several years Johnston Crescent residents have been complaining about he incessent noise. But nobody has actually measured the sound levels. It now appears they are not 70 decibels as allowed but up to 90 decibels (  well into the Rock concert and  WMD range)

Council has now passed a motion to require sound absorbing barriers around building sites

Bushcare morning in Batten Reserve great success

Posted: September 4th, 2013 | Filed under: Uncategorized

The Stringybark Creek Bushcare Group’s event for Bushcare’s National Major Day Out on Sunday 8 September was a great success.

Over 40 local residents including a large number of children enjoyed a guided bush walk on the newly upgraded track in the Batten Reserve and then spent time planting around a pond to create a friendly habitat for native frogs.

The morning was completed with a BBQ provided lunch and refreshments provided by Lane Cove Council.

West Ward Councillors Bennison and Strassberg joined the group for the mornings activities.

All those who attended agreed the volunteers who have been regenerating the bushland in Batten Reserve since 1994, have been doing a superb job!

New Working Hours in the Mowbray Precinct

Posted: April 4th, 2013 | Filed under: Current Issues, Media, Mowbray Precinct, Uncategorized

Council voted unanimously to reduce the Saturday working hours in the Mowbray Precinct at their meeting on 18 March.

There was a very strong message given to the Councillors by the community about the impact of the construction noise and the limited respite (1 day) for residents living in the area and around the Mowbray Precinct developments.

The Saturday building working hours for any new development approvals are now 8am to 12 noon on Saturday, in line with Willoughby Council’s Saturday working hours.

Unfortunately this is not retrospective and only applies to new developments that are yet to be approved.

Had the previous Council had the same empathy to the situation when we requested the same reduction last year, some of the newer approvals would have come under the ruling.

It could be a few years before we have our peaceful Saturday afternoons back. But better to get this now as we have a lot more developments still go!
