Bushfire protection control burn

Posted: October 4th, 2024 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Fire and Rescue NSW conducted a controlled hazard reduction burn on 26 March, 2024 in a central section of the Batten Reserve, the first for many years. Helping to reduce the large fuel load of many years of growth, the hazard reduction burn was a success, and the bushland is already regenerating. Nature is a wonderful process.

Wildlife show a huge success

Over 250 people joined us at Mindarie Park on a beautiful sunny morning on 7 April, 2024 for a wildlife encounter presented by Australian Wildlife Displays. Children were introduced to a blue tongue lizard, ringtail possum, green tree frog, tawny frog mouth and a python.

Following the show participants enjoyed a free sausage sizzle courtesy of the SBCRA and guided bush walks through the Batten Reserve hosted by Lane Cove Council.

Huge thanks to Lane Cove Council for jointly presenting this event with us, SCBRA Committee and Bushcare Group and everyone who came along, especially those who joined the SBCRA. Your membership enables us to make events like this possible.

Clean up a community effort

Posted: October 4th, 2024 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Over 50 locals including the Lane Cove Girl Guides joined forces to clean up our local bushland and streets on Sunday 25 February, 2024. Filling 20 large bags with rubbish including 94 alloys cans, 61 spray cans, 87 plastic bottles, 78 take away coffee cups, 71 plastic containers, fertiliser sprayer, metal furniture rails, a collection of “P” and “L” plates and even a child’s paddle pool.

Great to see the reduction in plastic bags and cans over the years. The Container Deposit Scheme and zero plastic bags in shops is certainly helping.

Thank you to In the Cove for the promotional support, Hummerston’s Gourmet Meats for the great sausages and Lane Cove Council for covering the BBQ costs and for the extra bags and gloves.
